NHTSA documents describe the defect as the exterior lighting circuit having insufficient overcurrent protection that can allow the circuit to overheat, and owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed.
The good news is that most cars already got that fix. Lucid pushed a software update in July that closes the gap, and the automaker is notifying owners now rather than waiting for the printed recall letters to go out on October 16, 2026.
Which Lucid Air Sedans Are Affected, And Why
The recall, filed with NHTSA as campaign 26V540000, covers Air sedans across five model years, 2022 through 2026, built with the same exterior lighting hardware and software calibration. Internal analysis traces the root cause to a software eFuse, essentially a digital circuit breaker, that was supposed to cut power to the front lighting circuit before it overheated but did not always intervene under certain conditions.
Lucid first spotted trouble in June 2023, when a company-owned 2023 Air caught fire starting from the front left corner. Two more field incidents followed over the next three years, and NHTSA logged four separate reports of smoke coming from Air sedans between October 2025 and April 2026. Investigators told NHTSA they could not pin down a definitive root cause, but they also could not rule out the front combination lamp as the source.
That is a narrower problem than the phrase \u201cfire risk recall\u201d tends to suggest. This is not the high-voltage traction battery pack that powers the car, the kind of defect that has sent other automaker's EVs back for costly hardware fixes. It is the low-voltage circuit that runs the headlights and taillights, similar to other recent park-outside fire recalls that have become more common as automakers lean harder on software to manage vehicle electronics.
Lucid's remedy is software version 2.10.0, released in July and installed automatically over the air on cars with a cellular connection. It rewrites the eFuse's overcurrent thresholds so the lighting circuit shuts itself down before heat becomes a hazard, and it costs owners nothing. NHTSA lists the recall date for campaign 26V540000 as August 19, 2026, and Lucid's internal reference number for the campaign is SR-26-06-0.
For owners, the practical checklist is short. Confirm the car has received version 2.10.0 or later through the vehicle's settings menu or the Lucid app, and until that is confirmed, follow the recall guidance to park outside and away from garages or other structures overnight.
Owners who cannot confirm the update, or whose car lacks a persistent cellular connection, should contact a Lucid service center rather than assume the fix applied silently.
