See the full story · 2 sourcesAfter taking two days off, the New England Patriots returned to the practice field on Monday, ahead of their scheduled joint training camp practice against the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.
There was a competitive team period at the practice, but the players were in shorts and shells.
Cornerback Carlton Davis returned to practice after being sidelined since late July with an injury. He was a limited participant during the competitive team period. Meanwhile, offensive tackle Will Campbell returned as a full participant at practice.
Here are the five standout players from Day 13 of training camp practice:
WR Romeo Doubs
There has been so much talk about A.J. Brown in training camp that people have seemingly forgotten about Romeo Doubs. If opposing teams do the same, they could pay for it on the football field. Doubs caught a corner touchdown pass from Drake Maye during a two-minute drill at Monday's practice. It was a perfectly placed ball that Doubs had to go up and get over star cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
OT Caleb Lomu
It hasn't been the easiest road for rookie offensive tackle Caleb Lomu early in training camp. He has consistently struggled in one-on-one reps against tough opposition. However, he went a perfect 3-0 in his reps on Monday, potentially signaling a turnaround. The rookie first-round draft pick isn't expected to start right away, but he is expected to be a top backup with swing tackle potential on both the right and left sides.
WR Efton Chism III
Efton Chism III had the most receptions of any receiver on the field at Monday's practice, including three catches in 11-on-11s and four catches in 7-on-7s. Despite the crowded wide receiver room, Chism has continued to make himself a player worthy of investing time in on the field. The former Eastern Washington standout is a reception magnet with a bright future in the NFL.
DL Casey Rogers
Veteran defensive lineman Casey Rogers had a strong day of practice with two batted passes during the competitive team period. He clearly isn't taking the opportunity lightly after being signed by the Patriots coming off a UFL season with the DC Defenders.
CB Christian Gonzalez
Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez had two pass breakups before being beaten by Romeo Doubs on the two-minute drill touchdown play. Gonzalez has continued to be a nuisance in the defensive backfield for the Patriots' offense. As good as he was last season, the former Oregon standout has looked even better ahead of the 2026 season.
