Who's pitching in the series between the Brewers and Padres?
All three games will air on Brewers.TV and on AM-620 WTMJ radio.
Brewers at Padres, Aug. 10, 8:40 p.m.: Milwaukee RHP Logan Henderson (6-1, 2.70) vs. San Diego RHP Casey Mize (4-7, 3.40)
Brewers at Padres, Aug. 11, 8:40 p.m.: Milwaukee LHP Kyle Harrison (9-2, 2.84) vs. San Diego RHP Walker Buehler (6-5, 5.07)
Brewers at Padres, Aug. 12, 3:10 p.m.: Milwaukee RHP Dustin May (8-7, 4.30) vs. San Diego LHP Robbie Ray (10-7, 3.24)
The Brewers will see two pitchers who the Padres acquired at the trade deadline in Mize and Ray. Meanwhile, Milwaukee's own trade-deadline acquisition, May, will work the Wednesday finale.
Milwaukee's trio of starters are all coming off victories against the Pittsburgh Pirates .
How has Luis Rengifo done with the Padres?
Rengifo, of course, began the year with the Brewers and struggled, posting a .534 OPS over 57 games before the Brewers parted ways, calling up shortstop Cooper Pratt.
He's been much better with the Padres. He has an .843 OPS in 21 games, with two homers (he didn't have any in Milwaukee) and a .415 on-base percentage.
As it happens, the Brewers are short of left-side infielders with Pratt on the injured list and Joey Ortiz day-to-day, but it would've been difficult to keep Rengifo at the rate he was producing.
Rengifo has actually been playing a lot of left field for the Padres, as well as second base.
Where do the Padres stand in the playoff chase?
San Diego is just one game out of a playoff spot entering the series, behind Arizona and Philadelphia for the final National League wild-card spots. The Padres (62-57) are 8½ games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the West.
The Padres have won 12 of their last 16 games to get into this position.
Who are the Padres' best players?
San Diego has a ton of familiar names in the lineup, but a lot of players who haven't thrived this year.
Manny Machado has a .719 OPS. Fernando Tatis Jr. is at .760 and just 10 homers. Outfielder Jackson Merrill has really struggled, with a .697 OPS. It's been a similar rough road this year for Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth. But Ty France has an .862 OPS, 16 homers and 50 RBIs while playing first base.
Mason Miller is the best relief pitcher in baseball, with 29 saves and a 0.91 ERA. As was the case last year, the Padres bullpen is loaded, with Adrián Morejón (2.89 ERA), Wandy Peralta (3.45), Bradgley Rodriguez (2.29), Jeremiah Estrada (3.55) and the injured Jason Adam (2.51).
Starter Michael King (3.37) is the team's best player by Baseball Reference WAR, though he won't pitch in the series.
How did the Brewers fare against the Padres earlier this year?
Milwaukee took two of three against the Padres earlier this year and nearly had a sweep in May.
Jacob Misiorowski had a dazzling outing for seven innings, and Milwaukee was one out away from a 1-0 win, but Gavin Sheets hit a two-out home run against Abner Uribe in the ninth that helped San Diego win, 3-1.
The Brewers won the other two games, 6-4 and 7-1.
