Cristian Romero is widely expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer and the Premier League side is currently negotiating a transfer with Atlético Madrid, but ‘Cuti’ is not ready to accept it just yet.
According to Mundo Deportivo , the Argentina center-back is paying attention to the moves at Barcelona and is waiting for a call once Ronald Araujo’s exit on loan to Liverpool is finalized.
Romero has always wanted to play for Barça and is well regarded by Blaugrana sporting director Deco, but the final decision will be made by coach Hansi Flick. who is currently thinking about whether the signing of a new central defender is necessary.
The report says Flick is happy with his current options: Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín and Andreas Christensen are the current senior center-backs while right-backs Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia have plenty of experience playing in the middle, and Flick is also interested in giving Álvaro Cortés a spot as the fourth center-back.
If something changes and Flick decides to recommend a center-back signing, Romero is said to be at the top of the list of targets along with Athletic Club’s Aymeric Laporte, who is also very well liked at Camp Nou.
Tottenham have set a €40 million asking price for Romero, with Atlético offering €30 million in the first round of talks between the clubs.
