The rumors were true: Barcelona have officially joined the race for Rodri, making contact with the player’s camp and Manchester City over a possible blockbuster transfer for Spain’s World Cup winning captain.
According to multiple reports in Spain and England, including from The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans have approached Rodri and Man City and recent hours to present their offer and sporting project.
Man City had been in talks with Real Madrid for weeks and Los Blancos always felt like the favorites to complete a deal, but time has passed without an agreement being reached and Barça now believe they have a real chance of convincing Rodri to join the club.
Barça and Madrid are both offering similar transfer fees to Man City, who are happy to accept either offer. The decision is said to be completely up to Rodri, who is very intrigued by Barça’s project, according to the reports.
The Blaugrana are ready to move on and close the deal as soon as they get the green light from the player, and now we all await for Rodri’s decision.
Rodri is a 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and won the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, and he now gets to choose between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
