Rui Hachimura will start a new chapter after signing with the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency for two years worth $28 million. Hachimura was among the most coveted players in the offseason, as he was coming off a strong stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.
He decided to stay in the City of Angels, choosing the Clippers over other suitors such as the Brooklyn Nets, the Golden State Warriors, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the San Antonio Spurs.
Now, the 28-year-old Hachimura will feel even more comfortable on the Clippers after the team signed Yuki Kawamura to an Exhibit 10 contract. The Athletic’s Law Murray noted that Kawamura is still eligible for a two-way deal .

Hachimura and Kawamura have a tight connection because of their Japanese roots. They played together on the national team in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hachimura led Japan with 22.0 points and 6.5 rebounds, while Kawamura added 20.3 points and 7.7 assists.
Hachimura and Kawamura had a special moment last season when the Lakers battled the Chicago Bulls at Crypto.com Arena.
The 25-year-old Kawamura played for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Summer League, averaging 8.2 points and 4.8 assists in five games.
Last season, the pint-sized guard played 18 games for the Chicago Bulls. He tallied 3.4 points and 2.6 assists in 11.6 minutes off the bench. He quickly became a fan favorite because of his energy, hustle, and playmaking.
He will compete for a permanent spot in the backcourt, which already features Darius Garland, Kris Dunn, Bennedict Mathurin, Jordan Miller, and Keaton Wagler.
Meanwhile, Hachimura is currently in Japan to host his youth basketball camp, Black Samurai Summit.
