See the full story · 1 sourcesAthletes flew and personal records were bested at Icahn Stadium in New York during the USATF Outdoor Championships July 23-26, which included several strong performances from former and current Oregon Ducks .
Twenty former athletes that donned the green and yellow were entered to take to the Big Apple in 24 events to compete among the country's best, though there were some drop outs, including NCAA champions Simeon Birnbaum and Peyton Bair.
The usual suspects continued to shine as Sha'Carri Richardson recaptured glory in the women's 100 meters, Noah Lyles ran a new world lead in the same event, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden continued her dominance in the women's 200 and teenage star Cooper Lutkenhaus dominated in the men's 800 over seasoned pros to win a national title.
Here's a look at how current and former Ducks fared during the four-day meet, as well as other notable results in New York.
Alaysha Johnson, Cooper Teare finish as runners-up at USATF Outdoors
Though no athlete that wrapped up their career as a Duck won an event at this year's USATF Outdoor meet, several had podium finishes.
Cooper Teare and Sam Prakel finished second and third, respectively, in the men's 5,000, with Teare finishing a tenth of a second behind winner Vincent Ciattei in 13 minutes, 46.88 seconds. Prakel finished just five hundredths of a second behind Teare.
Former Duck Alaysha Johnson finished second in the women's 100 hurdles in 12.42 with two-time reigning NCAA champion Aaliyah McCormick finishing sixth (12.79). Alia Armstrong won the event in 12.38.
Shelby Moran (women's hammer), Kyree King (men's 200) and Jadyn Mays (women's 200) all finished fourth in their respective events and Ryann Porter (women's triple jump), Jaida Ross (shot put), Benjamin Balazs (men's steeplechase), Cole Walsh (pole vault) and Jenna Prandini (women's 200) all finished in the top eight.
Former Oregon State steepler Kaylee Mitchell did not run in the women's steeplechase despite being entered.
Nikki Hiltz, who began their collegiate career at Oregon but finished at Arkansas, won the women's 1,500 in 4:06.92.
Other winners, top performances from USATF Outdoors
Isaac Grimes jumped a season-best 26-10 to win the men's long jump. Former Duck Damarcus Simpson finished 11th with a best jump of 24-1 3/4.
23-year-old Sydney Vaught won the women's 10,000 in 33:30.60, finishing six seconds ahead of Katie Izzo.
Woody Kincaid held off Grant Fisher to win the men's 10,000 in 30:13.66. Oregon's Evan Bishop finished ninth in the race in 30:49.39.
Garrett Scantling won the decathlon title with a score of 8,526. He won the long jump, shot put, 110 hurdles and javelin en route to the two-day event victory.
Erin Marsh won the heptathlon title with 6,059 points, finishing first in the 100 hurdles and 200.
Tyus Wilson equaled a personal best when he cleared 7-6 in the high jump to win the event, edging out Scottie Vines, who equaled a season best 7-5 for second.
Curtis Thompson set a new season-best in the men's javelin with a best throw of 287-4.
Aaliyah Butler held off Nike teammate Alexis Holmes in the women's 400 in 49.93, while Chris Bailey won the men's 400 title in 44.39 in a photo finish with Khaleb McRae.
Sandi Morris dominated the women's pole vault with a new season best of 16-3/4.
Nathan Green won a hotly-contested men's 1,500 in 3:50.27, just ahead of Ciattei. Hiltz continued their recent success in the women's 1,500, winning in 4:06.92.
Alia Armstrong won a crowded women's 100 hurdles in 12.38 with a season's best.
Nia Akins won the women's 800 in 1:59.25, a season best, while teenage sensation Lutkenhaus won the men's 800 in 1:43.48.
Emily Mackay won the women's 5,000 in 14:55.82 while Ciattei won the men's 5,000 in 13:46.75.
