Here's everything Houston Texans offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery said following Day 12 of training camp, including his growth from Year 1 to Year 2, battles against two Pro Bowl defensive ends and his expected goals in 2026.
Question: On his own expectations
Aireontae Ersery: “I would say, for myself, my expectations are always high. I’m trying to come out each and every day and find that one little thing to get better at. Like I said before, what two better guys to go against every day, Will [Anderson Jr.] and Danielle [Hunter]. I look forward to the challenge every day. I just focus on getting better with the technique.”
Q: On how much T Trent Brown has been a resource for him
Ersery: “He's crucial. A guy that's seen it all, done it all, been one of the highest-paid tackles. He's got a real vet presence. I always make a joke and call him master sensei because he always stands like this, with his hands behind his back. But, good guy, good vet to be around and I'm glad that he's here.”
Q: On what are some of the different ways that DE Danielle Hunter and DE Will Anderson Jr. challenge him
Ersery: “Danielle, he’s got a lot of different moves. He is another vet. He's been in the league for a long time. He has seen the best of the best during his career. Will is another up-and-coming Hall of Famer. Great player, great leader, very twitchy, got power too. He's another guy I look forward to going to against every day.”
Q: On if he’s started thinking about going up against DE Maxx Crosby in joint practice
Ersery: “Yeah, we already started game planning towards that way. Definitely looking forward to joint practice to go against somebody else.”
Q: On having G Wyatt Teller next to him on the offensive line
Ersery: “He's like a life jacket. He always mentions and says, ‘I got your back. Whatever you need. Whatever call you call, we go with it and go at 100 miles per hour. We make a mistake, we make a mistake together.’ So, just having a guy like that, that’s a vet, played at a high level, had high success, just adds more to the room.”
Q: On what his impressions of C/G Keylan Rutledge have been
Ersery: “I love the guy, man. I think that he definitely came here… A tone setter, a difference maker. A guy that you want at left guard, a guy that you want on your offensive line. I love his mentality and I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
Q: On the biggest difference between last training camp and this year
Ersery: “I think the heat is probably the biggest battle. You just got to find ways to get through it. It's going to be tough. It's going to happen. Then, more so, just playing for each other, knowing there's other guys on the team that's going through the same thing you're going through. So, it's all good.”
