Kyle Shanahan Appears at 49ers Training Camp Amid Accident Recovery

Shanahan was on the field next to 49ers general manager John Lynch in the center of the field behind the defense for the team period, per The Athletic's Matt Barrows . Shanahan reportedly wore sunglasses and a soft cast on his left hand, and swelling in his face seemingly subsided since his car crash.
Kyle Juszczyk, Fred Warner, and Dre Greenlaw were among the players who greeted their head coach during his just over 30 minutes at the training camp.
A report of Shanahan's accident first arrived on Saturday from the 49ers, who said the head coach had "non-life-threatening injuries" in his crash earlier this month. That also put him into a "limited" role during training camp.

Shanahan's injuries included a broken nose, three broken ribs, and a broken hand, and he needed over 40 stitches for his face. He also suffered a severe concussion in the July 14 crash, reportedly near his home in northern California.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Nick Wagoner , 49ers assistant head coach Chris Foerster, 64, is taking over some of Shanahan's duties until he can fully return. Lynch also indicated a group effort would be required to fill in for the 49ers head coach.
Last season, Shanahan coached San Francisco to an admirable 12-5 record and a spot in the NFL Playoffs. They defeated the Philadelphia Eagles at home before being trounced by the Seattle Seahawks, who went on to win the Super Bowl.
They're among the top 10 or 11 teams when it comes to the odds to win the 2027 Super Bowl. San Francisco signed Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans during the offseason, bringing a powerful new weapon to the field for fourth-year quarterback Brock Purdy, and could once again make noise in the NFC.
The 49ers begin their preseason slate with an Aug. 13 home game against the Tennessee Titans. It's unknown if Foerster will be on the sidelines as acting head coach for that one. It's possible that he could, since Shanahan has a concussion protocol to clear before he can resume his full-time coaching duties.
It's not expected that Shanahan will be unable to coach at the 49ers' first regular-season game. That occurs on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
