It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 3 of the Fran Brown Era.
Up next is…
Name: Tyshawn Russell
Position: Wide Receiver
Year: Redshirt Junior
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 195 lbs
Hometown: Harrisburg, PA
High School/Previous College: Bishop McDevitt/South Carolina
2025 Stats: Russell started 2025 well, getting nine catches for 83 yards in Syracuse’s first three games. Unfortunately, this is where his season would be cut short, as he would get an injury in the game against Colgate that would take him out for the rest of the season.
2026 Projections: It seems like Russell could be poised to get a lot of game time for the Orange in this upcoming season. With some injuries at the WR position and how much he was playing before he got hurt last season, we will definitely see Russell getting a lot of snaps for the Orange, where he could be a big weapon for the offense. We saw him put up some solid numbers when he played last year, so I’m excited to see what Russell can do with more time and a bigger role.
How’d he get here?: Russell transferred to Syracuse last season from South Carolina. Out of High School, he chose the Gamecocks over offers from Virginia Tech, Central Michigan, and Maine.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Both a consensus three-star transfer and three-star recruit by 24/7, ESPN, and On3

Interesting nugget o’interest: Russell’s high school has high-level alumni from both kinds of football, as well as Russell and a few NFL players who have come from Bishop McDevitt; they also have Jim Curtin as an alumnus, an MLS coach who has won two MLS Coach of the Year awards, and will be taking over Austin FC next season.
Let’s get a look at ya: Some senior year of HS highlights.
