Getting Jared Verse back in return for Garrett is a massive win in the deal, but they still have to hit on the picks they acquired in the deal as well. However, we now get quotes from Garrett from another training camp across the country as well.
And in his presser with the Rams, Garrett was asked about the difference between his practices with the Rams compared to his time with the Browns. Here was Garrett's response :
"I would just say it’s a team that has a culture that's a little bit more set in stone with leaders all across the board and I think Cleveland has some leaders that are continuing to develop... Some great teammates that I had and some great young talent that they continue to draft or pick up. You see a lot of older veterans here who've had a lot of years here or a lot of years in the league and been able to learn things and develop who they are as a person, as a teammate, as a leader and they've helped instill a great culture here. I think that's something that’s already ingrained and I can help to nurture, but it'll take time."
Is Garrett wrong about the Browns?
It's hard to argue with Garrett on this one. The Browns have had total turnover at the quarterback position year after year; the Rams have not. The Browns have two young receivers whom they hope will jump-start one of the league's worst units; a year ago, the Rams had a consistent and stable core of playmakers. The Browns have had two playoff appearances in the last 20 years; the Rams are a perennial playoff team who were just one game from the Super Bowl a year ago.
The Rams are the type of organization and have the type of culture the Browns should strive for. Perhaps they're on the right track .
