Some fans, of course, circled dates on their calendars, while others had fun at the team's expense on the Red Wings' Facebook page.
Here's a sampling of the punchlines with Detroit facing the possibility of 11 straight years out of the playoffs:

Single-game tickets go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 4 for the team's 101st season after the centennial season last year.
