Interesting, Andoni Iraola makes immediate decision that Arne Slot wouldn't
Andoni Iraola has made an immediate decision that Arne Slot never did. He's wasting no time at Liverpool.
Arne Slot did a lot of things that didn’t sit well with Liverpool fans. It was mainly about player selection, admittedly, and how certain stars never got a proper chance to earn a place.
Jarrel Qaunsah, Federico Chiesa, Tyler Morton, even Rio Ngumoha...
But it wasn’t all about who he picked. Slot’s phrasing and mentality in press conferences were both questioned, as was his continued reference to losing against Paris Saint-Germain at home as a performance to aspire to.
Then there’s the debatable one: where he chose to live. Slot situated himself in Greater Manchester, rather than Merseyside, which is a questionable one on paper. We’re only talking about a few miles here or there but it certainly sends a strange message, even if it doesn’t ultimately matter.

Really, it was just an issue because everything else was. Just another questionable decision that makes you wonder about his ‘fit’ for Liverpool FC. Though, it should always have the caveat that many of the higher-ups at Anfield live in the same area.
Well, Iraola has dodged that entirely. The Athletic reports that the new head coach lives in Formby, where Jurgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers did before him.
Look, ultimately, this doesn’t matter at all. Who really cares where the head coach stays? But it’s notable that Iraola has gone for a Merseyside town and, essentially, a suburb of Liverpool for his home.
Even if it just means that no one can throw accusations at him down the line, it’s worth it and suggests he understands the game right away. The correct move, then, even if it’s not a major problem regardless.
