The Chicago Bears had an absolutely blockbuster season last year . To go from the bottom of the pack to No. 1 in the NFC North in one season isn't a small feat. So, head coach Ben Johnson has plenty of bragging rights off last season, and so does quarterback Caleb Williams.
In his second season with the team, Williams notched 3,942 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions during the regular season. He also had a 90.1 passer rating . It was a solid year for him. But, it wasn't enough to move him ahead of some other NFC North quarterbacks in a new ranking.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, The Athletic released their 2026 NFL Quarterback Tiers results . In it, Williams, is tied with Brock Purdy for No. 11.
Bears' Caleb Williams falls behind Lions' Jared Goff, Packers' Jordan Love in NFL list
No. 11 isn't horrible, but that's behind Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff at No. 8 and Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love at No. 10.
"Only Daniel Jones and Maye improved their year-over-year standing more than Williams, who overtook Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix to rank second among quarterbacks from the 2024 draft class (only Maye remains higher)," Mike Sando of The Athletic writes in the piece.
"I've got all these cutups on him, and I'm going, 'This guy is special,'" one NFL head coach told the outlet. "He makes unbelievable throws, and he's fearless."
"I think Caleb's going from a 2 to a possible 1," an exec told the publication.
So, Williams is hot and trending in the right direction, but it still wasn't enough to get him over his NFC North rivals. Let this year prove them wrong.
