The Detroit Lions and Jahmyr Gibbs officially agreed to a contract extension, with the three-time Pro Bowl running back now the highest-paid at his position in the NFL .
Gibbs signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract extension, which could be worth up to $75.75 million and also includes $51.5 million guaranteed, ESPN's Eric Woodyard reported Thursday.
After the signing, Gibbs spoke at a media session, where he explained how he felt about the situation now that it's been resolved.
"This process was extremely stressful, because yeah, I just wanted to play ball. I missed being out there with my teammates and coaches. It's just fun to be out there now with my pads and stuff on," Gibbs told reporters , per 97.1 The Ticket.
He also sent a message on the city of Detroit, indicating it wasn't as bad as he'd been told before he started playing there.

"Before I got here, everything you hear about Detroit is negative, and since I’ve been here all I can say is positive things- the people, there’s a lot of good food, the culture," Gibbs said.
Having Gibbs back at practices with his contract extension resolved is a major plus for the Lions as they prepare for the season ahead. They'll have their first preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 13, against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it's unclear if Gibbs will be a participant.
He's coming off his third-straight Pro Bowl appearance due to his continued excellence as a running back, but also his dual-threat abilities as a wide receiver. It gives head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff a scary weapon on the field capable of changing games in the blink of an eye.
The Lions are looking to reach high expectations in the coming season. In a separate comment to the media , Gibbs explained that his next-level goal is to win the Super Bowl. As of this writing, DraftKings sportsbook has the Lions at +1900 odds to win the Super Bowl, which is tied with the San Francisco 49ers and below 10 other teams.
Among those 10 teams, the Lions sit below the Green Bay Packers, who will be another strong contender in what was a fierce NFC North division last season. The Chicago Bears won it last season, but many expect some regression after Chicago's magical season under Caleb Williams, allowing Detroit and Green Bay to take over again.
