Springer hasn’t enjoyed one of his strongest offensive seasons, but his value extends far beyond his regular-season production. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have both been sidelined for months with no timetable for their returns, leaving the Yankees without two of the most dangerous right-handed hitters in their lineup. To make matters worse, All-Star Cody Bellinger was recently placed on the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury.
Those injuries have left the Yankees searching for both outfield depth and another right-handed bat. Springer checks both boxes while also providing playoff experience for a team with World Series aspirations.
Adding him would also help balance a lineup that has become increasingly left-handed without Judge and Stanton.

This year, however, the circumstances are different.
Toronto appears headed toward selling veteran pieces as it looks toward the future, while the Yankees are firmly in win-now mode despite their growing list of injuries.
Springer may not be the flashiest name available before the deadline, but he could be one of the better fits for New York’s current needs. If the Blue Jays are willing to deal within the division and the Yankees are comfortable paying the asking price, this could become one of the most surprising—and logical—trades of the deadline.
