Lightweights MarQuel Mederos vs. Mason Jones squared off earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 22, 2026) at UFC Sacramento LIVE on Paramount+ from inside the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. After a really fun fight, Mederos secured a comeback knockout with a nasty series of elbows.
Fight fans were really looking forward to this Lightweight collision for good reason. The two strikers wasted no time in engaging, as Jones pushed a high pace. Mederos struck first with some heavy low kicks, but Jones attacked back with body kicks. In the pocket, they exchanged early and often. Jones seemed to get the better of several exchanges then swept his foe with a low kick of his own.
“The Dragon” continued to surge forward into the second round, and momentum seemed to be in his corner. After connecting on a nice combination, Jones tried to push forward more and walked into a vicious elbow. Suddenly, Jones was rocked, and the two were outright brawling. In the process, Mederos landed about three more nasty elbow strikes that left Jones out on his feet.

After five UFC fights, Mederos remains undefeated and just picked up the best scalp of his young career. He did a great job of maintaining his composure in the face of serious firepower, finding his moments with those elbows and body shots even as his opponent landed too. Generally, Mederos fights like a much more experienced contender.
As the first man to stop Mason Jones, Mederos hopefully has earned a ranked opponent next.
