For young NFL players trying to make a name for themselves, their best course of action will be to maximize their output during preseason games. But for most players, that amounts to only what they accomplish with their snaps.
In the case of the Dallas Cowboys ' Shiyazh Pete, a 2026 undrafted free agent out of New Mexico State and the first NFL player from the Navajo Nation, it was related to what the 6-foot-9 offensive lineman did on the field against the Arizona Cardinals in an exhibition and how he connected that to a beautiful speech in the post-game locker room.
After receiving a standing ovation for getting some snaps in at the end in front of a Phoenix crowd, Pete was called on to share a message to his Cowboys teammates. In less than a minute, Pete captured the beautiful essence of football, how everyone grows to be on the same page, and what otherwise complete strangers become to each other after they endure a game as demanding as football together.

It's unclear what Pete's NFL future holds and whether he'll be able to make the Cowboys' final 53-man roster. For now, he's created a rather memorable locker room moment, preseason or not.
Where is Shiyazh Pete currently slotted on the Cowboys' depth chart?
At the moment, Pete is listed as the Cowboys' third-string right guard. Tyler Booker, a 2025 first-round draft choice, and Trever Keegan, a third-year veteran out of Michigan, are ahead of him.
