Hewitt-Trussville is often at or near the top of the Alabama high school football rankings. It entered the 2026 season at No. 6 in the state, per the Massey Ratings. That was three spots behind No. 3 Auburn , which hosted the Huskies to open the year on Friday night.
Despite Mother Nature doing her best to keep the two teams from playing, Hewitt-Trussville marched its way to a statement 56-42 victory. The star of the night was sophomore quarterback Jack Floyd — a name to know in the 2029 cycle.

Floyd put up 519 total yards and seven touchdowns against another one of the state’s top programs. He threw for 360 yards and three scores and rushed for 159 yards and four more TDs. Hewitt-Trussville scored 42 points the first half.
That’s quite the statement for an up-and-coming signal-caller, especially considering who the QB on the other sideline was. Auburn returned senior three-star Cason Myers , an Arkansas commit who tallied over 3,000 total yards as a junior last fall.
Floyd completed 22 passes and also received plenty of help from the Huskies’ defense. Auburn finished the night with four turnovers, including a pair of interceptions from Myers, who finished with 288 yards passing, one touchdown through the air and two more on the ground.
It’s a humongous season-opening victory for a Hewitt-Trussville squad that’s won at least eight games in each of the last six seasons. The issue has been getting over the hump in the postseason, conquering the likes of Thompson and Central . Its last semifinals run came in 2023.
The Huskies, now No. 3 in the state , are coming off an 8-3 year that ended with a defeat to Opelika . If Friday night was any indication, then they’re poised for something bigger this fall. The schedule will continue to provide tests, as they now prepare for their home-opener on Aug. 28 against No. 13 Hillcrest . Top-10 matchups against Hoover and Prattville are also coming up over the next four weeks.
