One of the greatest strikers of his generation, Edin Džeko, is a cult hero by all means. It was a great sports story when he joined FC Schalke last season and helped bring them back to the top flight. Almost all fans are happy to see Schalke back in the Bundesliga, after some dark days for the club and major uncertainty. However, their return to the Bundesliga will be a massive challenge for the Gelsenkirchen side.
Among the challenges in the top flight, the greatest of all is facing the league giants, Bayern Munich. While many clubs relish the opportunity to face the big boys, and for players to meet their heroes. Edin Džeko though, doesn’t share that same sentiment.
“Perhaps the games against FC Bayern. They are so good under Vincent Kompany. He’s my friend and my former captain. It will be a tough game — not just for us, but for the other Bundesliga clubs as well. But jokes aside, I’m really looking forward to this season because, after 15 years, I’m back here again and getting to play against these teams,” Džeko told SkySportDE on what he isn’t looking forward to in the Bundesliga, as captured by @iMiaSanMia .
Perhaps for a veteran like Džeko, he prefers getting three points at the end of the day. Can’t blame him! Although Schalke has struggled against Bayern Munich in recent memory, most notably from the opening day thrashing of Schalke on the opening day in 2020, which ended with a 8-0 scoreline for the Bavarians. Džeko and Schalke will be hoping for a better scoreline when they meet.
