The Atlanta Falcons were dealt a significant blow on Friday when ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that star pass rusher James Pearce Jr. will be suspended for eight regular-season games without pay after violating the NFL 's personal conduct policy.
The suspension stems from a domestic dispute involving Pearce's then-girlfriend, Rickea Jackson, a forward for the WNBA's Chicago Sky. Pearce reportedly avoided a criminal trial, but the matter still violated the NFL's personal conduct policy, and he'll now miss the first half of the 2026 season.
That's a major loss for Atlanta, not just because Pearce is one of their best players, but because of how demanding the schedule is over that stretch. During his suspension, the Falcons will travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and host the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers.

Pearce was the Falcons' first-round pick (No. 26 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft after a strong three-year college career at Tennessee. Across three seasons with the Volunteers, he racked up 71 combined tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles, earning first-team All-SEC honors in each of his final two seasons.
His explosiveness off the edge was felt immediately at the NFL level. Playing in all 17 games as a rookie, Pearce tallied 26 combined tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five pass deflections, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, while leading all rookies with 10.5 sacks. He earned a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team and finished third in NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
