LAS VEGAS (KABC) -- The murder trial stemming from the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur completed its first week Friday with jurors hearing additional recorded interviews from defendant Duane "Keffe D" Davis and witnessing a courtroom outburst directed at the prosecutor.
One of the day's most notable moments came when prosecutors played audio from an interview in which Davis said he expected payment from Sean "P. Diddy" Combs after the rapper's death.
The second came during when Davis stood up and scolded the prosecutor.
"I get beat up by the cops, the guy attacked me in here, sent me to prison. This is just wrong, and it's mostly this guy," Davis said while pointing toward the prosecutor.
The prosecutor responded: "For the record I think he's indicating he's upset I'm prosecuting him for murder."
During the fifth day of the trial, jurors listened to a lengthy recording of Davis speaking with investigators. In the recording from 2009, Davis described pulling alongside a BMW carrying Shakur and Marion "Suge" Knight.
"What happened when you pulled up alongside?" an interviewer asked in the audio.
A second interviewer pressed Davis for clarification.
"Well, you're not being clear. He asked you, when you say you got to shooting, what do you mean, 'Got to shooting?'"
The first interviewer then asked, "Who got to shooting?"
"Orlando," Davis responded, referring to his nephew, Orlando Anderson, as the one who pulled the trigger.
Sean Combs' name also surfaced repeatedly in the audio.
"I knew we was like damn, we can get paid now," Davis said.
"But when you said paid, paid by Puffy right?" the second interviewer asked.
In these interviews with investigators, Davis said that Combs solicited a hit on rival record label owner Suge Knight of Death Row Records, to which Shakur was signed to.
Combs has repeatedly denied any involvement in Shakur's death and has never been named a suspect.
Jurors also viewed clips from a BET documentary series featuring Davis.
"Who shot Tupac?" an interviewer asked in one clip.
"Going to keep it for the code of the streets. It just came from the backseat, bro," Davis replied.
As the clip was played, Davis watched closely in court. Prosecutors also questioned documentary filmmaker Mario Diaz about the production.
"Was your show scripted at all?" the prosecutor asked.
"No, no... I pride myself in making sure that my work meets the strictest journalist standards," Diaz responded.
Davis has maintained that he was not in Las Vegas on the night Shakur was shot. He has pleaded not guilty.
Anderson died in an unrelated gang shootout two years after Shakur was killed. Combs is currently behind bars in New York on unrelated charges.
The trial is scheduled to continue next week.
