The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for the start of the NFL season, with only weeks left till the regular season opener. The franchise has done its best to improve the roster, to build a team capable of performing better than the last season.
With only a few time remaining before the rosters are ultimately decided, they have decided to trade for a very promising player.
Falcons trade for Gervon Dexter with Bears
The Chicago Bears traded defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. to the Falcons on August 30, 2026. In exchange, the Bears will receive cornerback Clark Phillips III and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick, according to Adam Schefter.

Dexter is a 6-foot-6, 326-pound interior lineman who was selected by the Bears in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida. He is entering the final year of his four-year rookie contract with his base salary approximately $1.59 million. He started all 17 regular-season games in 2025, recording 44 tackles, six sacks, six tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries. He had five more sacks in 2024, bringing his total sacks over the last two years to 11, and 13.5 overall.
The 24-year-old was drafted by Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham, who was the Bears assistant general manager at the time. The franchise was looking to reinforce their interior defensive line, in an effort to improve their defense. The franchise has already added players such as Da’Shawn Hand, Maason Smith, and Chris Williams.
On the other hand, the Bears have added a secondary depth option in Phillips. The 2023 fourth-round selection has appeared in limited action in 2025 due to a triceps injury. The trade move between the two teams occurred right on the NFL’s roster cutdown day, with the Bears looking to trade Dexter in the offseason. With this addition, the franchise has also made a decision.
Falcons release Bralen Trice
According to The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones, the Falcons have released defensive end Bralen Trice. The tweet read , “The Falcons are waiving 2024 third-round rusher Bralen Trice, source tells @TheAthletic. Trice, who had 16 sacks in his last 2 years at Washington, tore his ACL his rookie season and has yet to appear in a regular season game.”
The decision was made ahead of the 53-member roster deadline, as teams are scrambling to trim down their rosters. Trice was drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but never played in a single game for the franchise. He sustained season-ending injuries in both of the two seasons he spent there.
The Atlanta Falcons are now finalizing their final roster with the deadline only a short time away.
