Red-hot Monza: Scorching track temperatures threaten power units at Temple of Speed

Formula 1 arrives at the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza this weekend, and the weather looks set to turn the historic "Temple of Speed" into an absolute pressure cooker.

After the unpredictable drizzle and fluctuating track temperatures that reshuffled the pack in the Netherlands, teams and drivers heading into the Italian Grand Prix can leave their intermediate tyres packed away in the garage.

Meteorological forecasts across Lombardy indicate unbroken sunshine and soaring late-summer heat across all three days of on-track running. Practice sessions on Friday and qualifying on Saturday are projected to see ambient air temperatures reaching up to 34°C (93°F), with the mercury settling around a baking 32°C (90°F) for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
