The Minnesota Vikings are keeping their options open when it comes to adding help to the defensive front.
Speaking with media on Tuesday ahead of training camp, new Vikings general manager Nolan Teasley made it clear that the organization is continuously evaluating opportunities to improve its roster, including the possibility of adding another edge rusher before the regular season arrives.
When asked whether Minnesota is actively pursuing another pass rusher or a backup option at the position, Teasley left little doubt that the front office remains engaged in the market.
"Yeah, if there's a good football [player] out there somewhere. We're actively discussing it and pursuing it," Teasley said. "Finding ways to improve our roster every day of the week, every day of the month and every day between now and the trade deadline and the end of the season. There's always good football players out there for sure."
Teasley's comments come at a time when the Vikings appear to have a solid starting duo on the edge with Andrew Van Ginkel and former first-round pick Dallas Turner, but questions remain about the depth behind them. While Minnesota has several young pass rushers on the roster, adding an experienced veteran could provide insurance and another proven contributor as the season approaches.
One of the biggest names still available in free agency is Jadeveon Clowney, a former Pro Bowler who has continued to be an effective and disruptive edge presence throughout his career. Although Clowney may no longer be an elite double-digit sack producer, he could offer Minnesota valuable experience and rotational production in defensive coordinator Brian Flores' aggressive scheme.
Another intriguing possibility is veteran linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who is coming off one of the most productive stretches of his career with the Baltimore Ravens. The two-time Super Bowl champion has developed into a reliable pass rusher in recent seasons while also offering positional versatility and familiarity with multiple defensive systems throughout his successful career. His leadership and ability to contribute in a rotational role could make him an attractive option if the Vikings decide they want a more experienced presence behind their starters.
Teasley did not mention any specific targets or suggest a signing is imminent, but his comments indicate the front office is keeping a close eye on the market. Whether it's Clowney, Van Noy or another veteran who becomes available during training camp, the Vikings appear committed to exploring every opportunity to strengthen one of the league's most important positions.
