The New York Yankees made their first move of the MLB trade deadline, but it wasn't an acquisition of a big league talent. Instead, it was trading Camilo Doval to the Pittsburgh Pirates .
In exchange, according to Francys Romero of beisbolfr.com , the Yankees got catcher prospect Omar Alfonzo and outfield prospect Luis Cruz. It was an interesting first trade, as it left a hole in the Yankees' bullpen.
So, who is replacing Doval in the short-term? According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post , the Yankees are planning to bring reliever Yovanny Cruz, who has a 3.53 ERA in the minors this season, back up to the Majors for another stint.
Yankees plan to replace Camilo Doval with Yovanny Cruz
"The Yankees are planning to promote Yovanny Cruz to replace Camilo Doval in their bullpen," Sherman reports.
Doval, after getting traded to the Pirates, is having his spot in the bullpen filled by Cruz, the 26-year-old right-handed reliever.
This season, in 35.2 innings pitched in the minors, he has a 3.53 ERA with 52 strikeouts, a 1.26 WHIP, and a 7-3 record in 31 appearances.
He was called up to the big leagues earlier this season, and in his initial stint in the Majors, he went 4.1 innings without giving up a run. He allowed just one hit and no walks with a hit-by-pitch and six strikeouts.

It was a very promising first look in the Majors for Cruz, and now with Doval and his 4.54 ERA on its way to Pittsburgh, barring a physical, the Yankees are giving Cruz another chance in the big leagues.
Cruz will take over a spot in the bullpen, assuming this Doval trade becomes official. But the Yankees will still likely be on the hunt for a high-leverage reliever for this year's trade deadline.
Brian Cashman still has some work to do with this bullpen, but for now, with Doval headed to the Pirates in a trade a few days ahead of the deadline, the Yankees are planning to promote Yovanny Cruz to take his spot.
