Pete Crow-Armstrong broke a tie with an RBI triple in the seventh inning to lift Chicago to a 5-2 victory on Saturday night. Nico Hoerner tied the game earlier in the inning with a solo home run and David Peterson worked into the seventh, allowing one earned run and striking out eight. Seiya Suzuki and Michael Busch added insurance with RBI knocks in the seventh and eighth, respectively.
Spencer Jones connected for a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh inning before the Yankees’ bullpen coughed up the 2-1 lead. José Caballero got New York on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI single to tie the game. Max Fried struck out seven while allowing a run on two hits in 5.1 innings, and Ali Sánchez had three of the eight hits for the Yankees on the night.
Right-hander Colin Rea (8-7) starts the series finale for the Cubs. He enters with a 4.67 ERA and 1.397 WHIP in 111.2 innings, appearing in 22 games and starting 18. New York goes with right-hander Gerrit Cole (4-5), who comes in with a 3.57 ERA and 1.088 WHIP in 12 starts and 68 innings, striking out 73.
