On Wednesday, after 18 seasons, nine All-Star selections, and an MVP award from 2017, the legendary Russell Westbrook officially announced his retirement from the NBA. Westbrook's decision comes after the point guard had spent his last few seasons bouncing around various cities around the Association, including Los Angeles, Denver, and Sacramento. Ultimately, the buck stopped with Sacramento, which apparently did not want to bring back the veteran for another season .
Westbrook took to his X profile to share a heartfelt, extended goodbye video to announce the end of his iconic basketball career. It's a worthy tribute for one of the best and most unique players we've ever seen:

With even the lowly Kings not having an apparent interest in bringing him back, it appears that not much of a market materialized for Westbrook to come back and play another season at the age of 37. That, or he may not have liked any of the offers or teams he was receiving interest from enough to continue playing in the NBA.
At his peak, Westbrook was an unstoppable force of nature, a player who thrived with incredible athleticism and a keen basketball sense. The NBA will undeniably be worse off without his presence on a night-to-night basis.
