Kelsey Plum to reportedly miss the rest of the WNBA season, FIBA World Cup due to lower-leg injuries
After a strong start to the 2026 WNBA season, lower-leg issues have limited Kelsey Plum’s availability. Since a midseason trade to the Phoenix Mercury, Plum has appeared in just five of 10 games, and has experienced declining numbers in those contests.
Turns out, Plum still isn’t fully over her injuries. The 32-year-old star will reportedly miss the rest of the WNBA season due to those issues, per ESPN.

Additionally, Plum will not participate in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Both Plum and Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson pulled out of the event Monday, citing injuries. They’ll be replaced by Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen of the Washington Mystics.
It’s a disappointing development for Plum, who was out to a career-best start with the Los Angeles Sparks. In her 12 games with the team, Plum averaged a career-high 23.9 points.
But Plum sustained an ankle injury early in the season, causing her to miss a few games. Upon her return, Plum quickly sustained a lower-leg injury. One — or both — of those issues has continued to plague her all season.
Despite that, Plum was still traded at the deadline . After playing in four-straight games following that trade, Plum once again missed time. She appeared in one more game with the Mercury before deciding to shut it down. Plum saw declining numbers in those contests, averaging 15.8 points with Phoenix.
After signing a one-year, $999,999 deal with the Sparks last offseason, Plum will rest up before once again hitting the free-agent market. As long as she’s fully recovered from her ailments, Plum should be a highly sought-after talent in free agency.
