See the full story · 1 sourcesWe continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals ' regular season. Today, Saturday, August 1, is 43 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 43 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 1943 season for the Cardinals.
A look back at the 1943 season for the Cardinals
The 1943 was the first of two consecutive winless seasons. They went 0-10 in 1943 before losing all 10 games in 1944. They lost the last final six games of 1941.
They were shut out three times and held to seven or less four times.
They were seventh in scoring in the 10-team league, averaging 9.5 points per game (it's crazy to think that there were three other teams scoring less than that).
They allowed 23.8 points per game, the third most in the league.
1943 individual honors, leaders
Receiver Ed Rucinski was a first-team All-Pro for the Cardinals in 1943. He had 26 receptions for 398 yards and three touchdowns.
Ronnie Cahill was the team's leading passer with 608 passing yards, three touchdowns and a league-leading 21 interceptions. They only had six touchdown passes all season.
John Grigas rushed for 333 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 19 receptions for 225 yards. He also had five interceptions on defense.
