One person died and nine others were injured in a mass shooting late Saturday in Washington Park, Chicago police said.
Officers were trying to disperse a large crowd of people that had gathered on the eastern edge of the park in the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when the mass shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police.
A 35-year-old man shot multiple times was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Six other victims — men and women ages 26 to 45 — were all in good condition at the University of Chicago, Stroger Hospital and St. Bernard Hospital, police said in a statement. Authorities did not know the condition of the three remaining victims — ages 23, 35 and 37 — nor the hospital they were taken to.
No officers were injured. Police did not report how many shooters fired at the crowd, and no one has been arrested.
