See the full story · 4 sourcesPHILADELPHIA -- As the Philadelphia 76ers move forward with this new iteration of the roster, the focus will be on chemistry and making sure everybody is on the same page. The Sixers did a complete roster overhaul with the additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, along with a slew of other new players.
A big aspect of the Sixers that many will be focused on will be the relationship between Brown and Joel Embiid. When Philadelphia rallied from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Boston Celtics in the playoffs, Brown went on his stream and had some comments about Embiid as a flopper and things of that nature. Now, the two of them are on the same team and Brown described his relationship with the big fella.
"It’s been good," Brown said on Thursday. "Me and Joel been friends throughout the years. We have mutual respect. He loves soccer. I love soccer. So, we talk about that a lot and stuff like that. He reached out, too, when I got traded. He reached out the same day. I talked to him on the phone. So, I'm looking forward. I'm looking forward to earning everybody's trust and respect and grind and be impactful. That's what I've done my whole career. I'm looking to do the same thing here."
Embiid is one of the best players in the league, regardless of position. There's so many dominant things he can do on the floor and he can't be stopped when he is in a rhythm and groove. Brown defended Embiid down the stretch of Game 7 up in Boston in Round 1 and Embiid carried Philadelphia to the win to eliminate the Celtics. Brown said his comments, but one can likely chalk that up to emotions at this point.
As the big fella and Brown now move forward, they must have their relationship on the same page as well as with James, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe. Brown and Embiid talk a lot, and they are keeping everybody involved as well/
"We talk damn near every day, almost," Brown added. "We have group chats, multiple now, and we’re all trying to figure this thing out. LeBron, he's active in the group chat. So, we're just trying to all get on the same page. I think everybody knows how incredible the opportunity that we have. We also got to put in the work. So, my focus is on that. Put it the work, earning the respect from the city, from the coaching staff, everything. You have to take time. So, I understand how that process of winning works. You got to build from the foundation and build up. Can't skip steps, so we're not skipping those steps. We start early."
