The Cleveland Browns have named their starter for Week one of the NFL season against the Jacksonville Jaguars .
Deshaun Watson has been named the Browns' starting quarterback, according to sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 24, 2026 The move comes despite Watson's struggles in the second preseason game Saturday, during which he completed 5 of 12 passes for 35 yards and one interception over a span of four drives in the second half. He was met with boo's in his first home game played since suffering his torn Achilles.
The competition was supposed to heat up between second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson during camp, and with each starting a preseason game this summer, Watson has emerged as the clear favorite after some folks thought Sanders showed enough to earn snaps.
We will have to wait and see how short a leash Watson will be on in favor of Sanders. The Browns will start the season playing two games on the road before returning home in Week three to go against the Carolina Panthers .
