Ryan Reynolds targets North American soccer growth in new Wrexham push

With North America’s soccer fever reaching an all-time high post-World Cup, Ryan Reynolds is trying to seize the moment to bring Wrexham directly to American fans.

Wrexham AFC’s rise combines a loyal, working-class Welsh supporter base with a rising American fandom.

Driven by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Hollywood ownership and the hit FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham , the club transformed from non-league club into a pop-culture phenomenon.

In the U.S., Wrexham’s popularity rivals established European giants. American fans regularly pack NFL venues and MLB ballparks for their summer exhibition tours.

And that’s not all, as high merchandise sales and strong U.S. broadcast ratings highlight an unusually devoted overseas following, but there’s still plenty of room to grow.

Ryan Reynolds wants to capitalize on World Cup hype

Wrexham are currently on an East Coast pre-season tour across major U.S. venues. Having played Leeds United in Tampa, they face Liverpool at Yankee Stadium before facing Sunderland in Philadelphia.

In new comments from Ryan Reynolds , he’s talked up the excitement in North America following the World Cup and how he wants to build on that with Wrexham (as per Sports Illustrated ).

“The timing also couldn’t be better. With the World Cup bringing even more excitement and attention to football across North America, it feels like a great opportunity to celebrate the game’s continued growth while giving supporters the chance to experience Wrexham up close.”

Expanding soccer in North America is a hot topic after the World Cup, and the MLS are trying to do what they can by offering free tickets, spending millions on a new campaign, as well as changing the calendar.
