Here are the 8 nominees from Week 1 in the Lafayette area, listed in alphabetical order by high school:
Landon Brand, Central Catholic
The sophomore finished with five tackles and two interceptions in the Knights' 63-6 victory over Mitchell. He returned one of the interceptions for a pick-six.
AJ Asbury, Covington
The senior tallied six tackles and two interceptions on defense, including one that resulted in a pick-six in the Trojans' 66-0 win over Tri-County. Asbury also ran for 66 yards and scored two touchdowns on six carries.
Weston Brown, Delphi
The junior completed 20-of-26 passes for 324 yards and five touchdowns, with an average per throw of 16.2 yards, in the Oracles' 35-7 win over Benton Central.
Luke Woodman, Faith Christian
The senior led a 48-8 shutdown of Attica on defense, picking up two sacks, one forced fumble, six tackles, and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Zion Clopton, Harrison
The junior rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries to help the Raiders capture a 43-40 win over West Lafayette. Added six receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown in the air.
Landon Musch, Rensselaer Central
The senior was everywhere on offense in the Bombers' 52-7 win over Kankakee Valley. He took 15 snaps and rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns, along with three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Mason Brummett, Twin Lakes
The senior rushed for 137 yards and scored two touchdowns in the Indians' 49-18 win over North Montgomery. Added 10 tackles on defense, including four for a loss.
Blake Biddle, West Lafayette
The senior stuffed the stat sheet despite the loss, completing 20-of-39 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Also led the Red Devils on the ground with 69 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
