Harry Kane reportedly looks set to extend his Bayern Munich contract through 2029, keeping him in Munich for several more seasons beyond his current deal.
On the surface, it is easy to understand why Bayern Munich would want to make this happen. Kane has been everything the club could have hoped for since arriving from Tottenham. He has established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe, helped Bayern Munich reclaim the Bundesliga title, and remains the focal point of the attack.
Kane has also made it clear that his priorities have shifted. Rather than returning to England to chase Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record, he appears increasingly focused on winning more trophies with Bayern Munich, particularly the Champions League.
But a contract through 2029 would take Kane into his mid-30s. That is where the debate becomes interesting.
How much should Bayern Munich be willing to bet on Kane maintaining his elite level as he ages? Does his professionalism, goalscoring ability and importance to the team make the long-term commitment worthwhile, or would Bayern Munich be better served keeping the contract shorter and reassessing his future later?
Is 2029 too long for Kane, or should Bayern Munich lock down one of the best strikers in the world for as long as possible?
