The communication breakdown at the top of world football has reached a new high after Concacaf revealed it was completely blindsided by FIFA’s latest tournament plans.
Gianni Infantino wants to spin FIFA’s commercial side into a separate venture called FIFA Forward Enterprise, bringing in private investors for a minority stake. He’s pitching it as a win for smaller nations, dangling $20 million development payouts to buy their backing.
The pushback, however, has been fast. UEFA immediately slammed the idea, declaring that football isn’t FIFA’s to sell and accusing them of trading the sport’s soul.
And now Concacaf have joined the pile-on too, furious after finding out about the plan online alongside everyone else.
It all just seems like one big money grab, and the Donald Trump administration is involved.
Concacaf hit back at Gianni Infantino and FIFA
Just like other democrats and bodies, Concacaf haven’t taken lightly to the rumours about FIFA’s plans and they even revealed that they were completely blindsided by it.
“Concacaf was only made aware of this matter through media reports and, subsequently, via a media release.
“We are deeply concerned by the lack of due process.
“We share the disappointment of many within our region and the game that this level of detail has been designed and shared publicly before any discussion with the relevant governance bodies and stakeholders has taken place.
“As leaders within football, we are the custodians of the game. Collectively, FIFA, the Confederations and every Member Association have a responsibility to always act in the best interests of the sport. Every decision we make must be guided by good governance, robust processes and long-term stewardship.
“This is the framework within which Concacaf operates. We trust that all within the FIFA family will act in the same manner.”
You struggle to see how all of this will be approved with such opposition from different bodies and nations, but never say never with Gianni Infantino and potentially Trump involved.
