The Colorado State 2026 sports season began Aug. 12 with the Rams putting a scare in a rival.
The CSU women's soccer team played at Colorado with the Buffs beginning the season ranked No. 13 in the nation in the coaches poll.
There were multiple lightning delays before the game began, rain during and a freshman goal-scorer for CSU.
But in the end, CU won 2-1 on a late goal.
CU went ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute. CSU tied it in the 66th minute when freshman Ava Wallhead from Laramie scored, giving the Rams a chance at an impressive tie or stunning upset.
But CU's Lilian Zamorano scored the winner in the 77th minute. CSU goalkeeper Addison Huber finished with six saves.
It was the first time CSU and CU had played in women's soccer since 2021, when the Rams didn't return to the field after several lightning delays leading to the game being ruled a no-contest .
The game was the competitive debut of CSU as a Pac-12 athletics program and first competitive game for any Ram team in Adidas gear .
