They don't keep scores in a joint practice. Both teams enter looking to accomplish specific things and work together to ensure everyone leaves the field healthy and happy. On Wednesday, the Washington Commanders hosted a joint practice at their facility for the first time in franchise history, as the Miami Dolphins came to town.
Well, there were NFL officials in town, but they didn't keep score; it was still a winning day for the Commanders. We identified things we needed to see from Washington against Miami. The Commanders checked all the boxes. They faced an offense lacking proven weapons and dominated them. They overwhelmed Miami's rebuilding offensive line. Quarterback Jayden Daniels carved up the Dolphins' defense.
Washington entered Wednesday's practice expected to be ahead of Miami, which is what happened. Could you imagine the outrage if the Commanders struggled? Washington wasn't perfect by any stretch, but several players you expected to stand out stood out and more.
What did others think about Wednesday's joint practice performance? We took to X to see some of those reactions.
Jayden Daniels looks amazing. I remember watching him in a joint practice two years ago as a rookie and being impressed. He's even better now. That's what a QB is supposed to look like. https://t.co/BuH6L0nnfp
— Omar Kelly (@OmarKelly) August 12, 2026 It’s only practice, and only against the Dolphins, but Washington QB Jayden Daniels looks sharp. His throws are strong and on target down the field. He’s shown off his same, old mobility, too. Good early signs for the Commanders.

— CommandersMuse (@CommandersMusee) August 12, 2026 Commanders definitely won the day on both sides of the ball against the Dolphins. Jayden Daniels mostly had his way against the Miami D, but strong finish in the late scenario with Taaffe PBU in end zone. Offense struggled to move for most part, and Malik Willis was forced to…
— David Furones (@DavidFurones_) August 12, 2026 If Jayden can beat you from the pocket, it's over for the league. https://t.co/W2UPsH8Gey
— Disco (@discoque92) August 12, 2026 My takeaways from Commanders-Dolphins joint practice: 1. Jayden Daniels had a big day. Super accurate throughout the day. 2. Chig and Diggs are gonna get a ton of volume. Both made several plays in the short/intermediate pass game today 3. Defensive line popped. Oweh and…
— Ethan Cadeaux (@Ethan_Cadeaux) August 12, 2026 My takeaways from the #Commanders -Dolphins joint practice: - WAS offensive line struggled today - As a result, the run game was a non-factor - Jayden Daniels was still accurate and protected the ball - WRs looked good - WAS defense locked down - MIA offense is #notgood
— Tashan Reed (@tashanreed) August 12, 2026 Jayden Daniels has looked sharp. Comfortable.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 12, 2026 Commanders just wrapped their joint practice with the Dolphins. Irresponsible amount of observations coming. 🏈 Miami is not going to be good. That's important to state before I comment any further about how lopsided in WSH's favor today's practice was. And it did feel lopsided…
— Grant Paulsen (@GrantPaulsen) August 12, 2026 Looks like Jason Marshall Jr. in coverage It’s actually a great rep but an unbelievable play by Terry McLaurin and Jayden Daniels 🤷♂️🤷♂️ https://t.co/cpxzFZ6r8S
— Nic Rohloff (@nic_rohloff) August 12, 2026 Commanders kicking competition is BACK! Moody and Stevens both hit every one in the first series. Went as far as 60.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 12, 2026 The Commanders’ offensive line so far looks like … an offensive line that lost their best player.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 12, 2026 Bill threw a great block on a free rusher off the edge allowing Jayden to step up And make this throw - you can see 22 just behind Jayden running that bitzer around the backside - best RB block of the day https://t.co/3B2WzDu30t
