His first-step quickness, power and ability to collapse the pocket create problems that cannot always be measured through sacks. Quarterbacks are forced to move, running backs must alter their paths and offensive lines frequently commit additional help to his side.
Philadelphia’s investment is based on the belief that those stretches can become the norm.
Record contracts invite record expectations. Carter will be evaluated against the NFL’s elite defensive tackles rather than other young players at his position.
