Cameras Catch Angel Reese's Physical Play Against Former LSU Teammate Amid Dream Star's Historic Moment — Yahoo Sports

The Atlanta Dream edged past the Toronto Tempo 107-95 on Monday at the Gateway Center Arena, a game in which Angel Reese achieved a milestone with the Dream. However, there was another talking point after the game regarding the contact Reese made with her former LSU teammate Aneesah Morrow, as they contested for a rebound in the third quarter.

With around 3:59 left in the third quarter of the game, both Morrow and Reese attempted to grab the ball when Reese’s outstretched hand grazed her ex-LSU Tigers teammate’s eye. Morrow went down with her hand on her face but didn’t require any medical attention and got up soon after the incident.

Playing alongside each other for one season in the SEC, Reese and Morrow provided elite rebounding and scoring for the Tigers. They even helped lead LSU deep into the SEC and an Elite Eight appearance in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Barring this incident, it was otherwise a fantastic night for Atlanta and Angel Reese , and a much-needed win after suffering two losses in their last three games. Reese added another double-double on the night, creating franchise history in her very first season with the Atlanta Dream.

Finishing the game with 20 points and 14 rebounds, Reese notched her 22nd double-double of the season. She isn’t just leading the league in the metric but has now surpassed Tina Charles’ franchise record of 21 double-doubles in a single season with plenty of games left in the 2026 regular season.

This milestone also puts her in touching distance of Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas’ WNBA record of 28 double-doubles in a season, which Thomas set with the Connecticut Sun back in 2023.

Angel Reese has been in scintillating form since joining Atlanta this year after spending two seasons with the Chicago Sky. She is averaging 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season. She became the fastest player to reach 1,000 career rebounds, doing so in just 79 games and surpassing Tina Charles’ previous record of 89 games.

Last month, when the Atlanta Dream beat the Seattle Storm 89-78 on July 9 to end a five-game skid, Reese recorded her 64th career double-double and became the player with the most double-doubles in their first three WNBA seasons, again surpassing Tina Charles.

Meanwhile, the August 10 win marks their season sweep of the Toronto Tempo. For the Tempo, the loss added to what’s become an eight-game losing streak, the club’s longest in its debut season. The way these nine losses have accumulated matters, as the Tempo have lost all but one of their games by double digits.

However, Angel Reese wasn’t the only one who made history. Her Dream teammate Rhyne Howard became the fastest player in WNBA history to make 100 three-pointers in a season. Scoring 22 points and 6 three-pointers on the night, she achieved the mark in 31 games, breaking Diana Taurasi’s 33-game record.

Thanks to the winning effort and the historic night, the Atlanta Dream moved into fourth place in the WNBA standings, ahead of the Indiana Fever. The Tempo, on the other hand, notched their 22nd loss of the season and remain in 13th place ahead of the Sun, who have won just eight games in 2026.
