On the day that Real Madrid look set to receive €80m for selling two La Fabrica graduates , another’s exit has been thrown into doubt. Raul Asencio had looked certain to follow Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios out of the Bernabeu, although that now looks unlikely to happen.
Last week, Asencio was informed by Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho that he was not in his plans for the 2026-27 season . On the back of this, an exit for the 23-year-old was being sought, as it would have allowed the club to go after another centre-back signing, with Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni being the top target at this stage.
However, it is now very unlikely that Asencio leaves this summer, with Real Madrid confirming in an official media report that he has suffered a hamstring injury in training that will keep him on the sidelines for several weeks.
“After the tests carried out today on our player Raúl Asencio by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg. Pending evolution.”
Asencio won’t return before September
Real Madrid did not disclose a timescale for Asencio’s return, although Arancha Rodriguez has reported that the defender is expected to be out for six weeks. If that is the case, he will not return until September, meaning that he would not be fit to join another club during the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window.
It is far from ideal for Real Madrid to have lost Asencio, although the fact that he is injured could open the door for a new defender to be signed anyway. Regardless, the La Fabrica graduate looks set to remain at the Bernabeu until January at the earliest, and when he returns from injury, he’s unlikely to see much action.
