Odell Beckham Jr. left frustrated after dropping preseason TD: ‘It’s on me
Odell Beckham Jr. has been patiently waiting for this moment.
The star wide receiver was quiet making his highly-anticipated preseason return with the Giants last week, but he had a chance to stamp his mark in the crowded WR competition on Saturday .
Beckham was able to create some separation from the Dolphins' secondary in the end zone on a third-and-two play, and backup QB Jameis Winston flung a perfectly-placed pass his way.
Had he come down with it, it would unofficially be his first touchdown back with Big Blue, but instead it went in the books as an ugly drop right off his hands.
The veteran was visibly frustrated after the play, then carried that to the sidelines as the Giants instead lined up for a field goal attempt as the first half came to a close.
“I’m pissed,” he said postgame. “This is the one that keeps me up at night, it’s a play that I know I can make -- I don’t care if it was high or lower, it is on me.
“I feel like if the ball is anywhere near me, especially if it touches my fingertips, I’m supposed to come down with it -- so that one right there is on nobody but me.”
Beckham was able to show some positive this time around, though, as he showcased his shiftiness breaking up field for 12 yards on one of his two receptions of the night.
Those were his first two catches of the preseason.
Head coach John Harbaugh has liked what Beckham has brought to the table thus far, whether or not it’ll be enough to crack the roster though, remains to be seen.
“I love Odell,” Harbaugh said. “What he’s going, what he’s fighting for, I don’t know how it is going to turn out.”
Beckham has one more opportunity to strengthen his case in the WR room, next Friday night back home against the Jets, ahead of the Aug. 30 roster deadline.
