A person on a stand-up electric scooter died Friday morning after they were struck by the driver of a commercial truck in San Francisco, police believe.
The collision happened at about 8:18 a.m. at Powell and Market streets, police said.
Responding officers found one person in the street suffering from life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel tried to save the person, but they died at the scene.
“At this time, we believe that the person who was deceased was operating a stand-up electric scooter when a commercial truck involved in the collision struck them,” San Francisco police Officer Robert Rueca said.
The truck driver stopped in the area and was cooperating with investigators, police said. Whether the collision would be classified as a hit and run was under investigation.
“There is still a lot that we need to uncover,” Rueca said.
