Running back Isiah Pacheco, who the Detroit Lions signed this offseason , suffered a sprained MCL, per Lions head coach Dan Campbell. Campbell adds that Pacheco will miss time, but he's not concerned about his overall availability heading toward the regular season.
The minor scuff is a setback for the former Kansas City Chiefs running back, who adds to a lengthy injury history. He played in 13 games (12 starts) last year also due to a knee injury, and missed time in 2024 with a fractured leg and other ailments.
The Lions running back room, which got a facelift this offseason with the departure of David Montgomery , will likely feature a significantly healthier serving of Gibbs, who will be more of a focal point in the offense with Montgomery out of the snap-share equation in the backfield.

Isiah Pacheco injury update
The Lions RB2 suffered an MCL sprain, according to head coach Dan Campbell. Campbell adds that he expects Pacheco to be ready come the regular season.
"It'll be a little bit, he has a little MCL sprain, but we feel good about that (Pacheco's status)," Campbell said on Monday, Aug. 10. "We feel pretty good about him being ready to go, certainly when the season gets here. So I'm not concerned about that."

Here's how the Lions RB depth lines up:
Jahmyr Gibbs
Isiah Pacheco (injured)
Sione Vaki (injured)
Jacob Saylors
Gibbs signed a big-time contract extension after a short holdout this offseason, further solidifying his role as the bell-cow back in the Lions backfield this year.
With Pacheco and Vaki both facing injuries, former UFL running back Jacob Saylors has an opportunity to climb the ladder with his snaps during camp. Saylors has spent time with four NFL teams during training camp (Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns), but has never taken an NFL regular-season snap.
