Despite not getting that many new players through the Anfield doors, Liverpool's summer transfer window has been fairly busy.
Almost every day one of the Reds' players are being linked with a move away and, on the days that isn't happening, the rumour mill is spinning regarding what their own plans are this summer .
It's clear that the Anfield outfit still need to add many new players to their ranks but, with how things have panned out thus far, it's unclear whether that'll even end up happening.
Every player that Liverpool wants to sign end up moving elsewhere or the Reds just end up dropping out of the race.
However, there have been times when the club have performed a U-turn and now, that seems to be exactly what's about to happen in L4.
Liverpool want to offer Curtis Jones a new contract at the end of the summer transfer window
One of the main players to have been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer is Curtis Jones .
The midfielder has entered the final year of his deal at Anfield and, since Arne Slot underused him last term, the Englishman wants out.
Indeed, he does have the rest of pre-season to try and prove his worth to Iraola but, at the moment, it feels like he already has one foot out of the door.
This would be a massive loss for Liverpool as, not only will their midfield lack energy but, they'll lose even more depth and run the risk of entering another injury crisis.
However, as per a fresh update from TuttoSport via Sports Witness, it seems like this whole ordeal could be about to perform a massive U-turn.
"Liverpool face the real risk of losing Curtis Jones on a free transfer as he continues to show a ‘firm desire’ to join Inter Milan," they wrote .
"Tuttosport report that it currently remains unclear whether Jones will accept a contract renewal at Anfield. That’s despite Liverpool’s intention to offer one at the end of the summer transfer window.
"According to the newspaper, Inter Milan have not given up their efforts to sign the 25-year-old are ongoing despite the struggle to reach an agreement with Liverpool so far.
"While the Italian champions have an ‘overcrowded midfield’ at present – nine players are vying for three starting spots – the strong interest in Jones refuses to die down.
"They have not been distracted from their attempts to sign the Liverpool midfielder. Far from it in fact. He is a player who has been ‘specifically requested’ by the club’s management.
"Their latest bid was raised to €35m, just €5m short of Liverpool’s asking price. The hope is that will tempt Liverpool into negotiations. Jones himself has an ‘iron determination’ to leave."
Liverpool must figure out what they want to do with Curtis Jones before it's too late
Since Jones is now in the final year of his current Liverpool contract, they don't really have a lot of time to decide on his future.
Indeed, they have had the past couple of seasons to get the terms of a deal ironed out but, for one reason or another, an agreement hasn't been reached just yet.
This has forced both parties into a bit of a tight space as, if Jones isn't sold this summer and an agreement for a new contract isn't reached, by January, he will be allowed to talk to foreign clubs about a potential free transfer.
And, with how strongly interested Inter Milan are in signing the 25-year-old , it feels like that deal would be done at the very start of January.
So, Liverpool and Jones now have less than a month to figure things out.
Because, if the Reds just let him pack his bags and leave, that'll be the third year in a row where a member of Liverpool's first-team squad has left for free despite having plenty of value within them.
And, while the Reds can obviously afford it, missing out on a hefty chunk of change three years in a row is far from ideal.
