The Green Bay Packers have one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in Jordan Love. A lot of people just haven’t noticed yet.
That’s the case Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna laid out in a feature on the Packers signal-caller, arguing Love is badly underrated despite counting stats that don’t jump off the page.
The disconnect is the whole story. Love’s touchdown totals and yardage have dropped, but by the numbers that measure how well a quarterback actually plays, he’s never been better.

McKenna’s advice is to throw the counting stats out the window, and the advanced metrics explain why.
In 2025, Love’s EPA per dropback tied for second in the NFL at .19, even with reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, per Next Gen Stats. His completion percentage over expected ranked fourth. His big-time throw rate of 5.8% was fifth-highest in the league, per Pro Football Focus .
That split has turned Love into one of the league’s most polarizing quarterbacks.
As McKenna put it: “Love has turned into The QB Nerd’s favorite quarterback, with film-watchers and data-crunchers touting him endlessly. But then the fantasy football owners and box-score warriors treat him as their scapegoat, pointing to disappointing game totals, flagrant errors and interceptions (of which there are not many).”
The version of Love that produces those numbers is a quarterback constantly managing two competing urges. He wants to stay on schedule, and he wants to take the top off the defense, but as he told McKenna, the two rarely coexist.
“I’m always trying to get to third-and-short,” Love said. But then: “I always want the big play.”
“Definitely in constant conflict,” he added with a laugh.
Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said the growth has come in how Love picks his spots.
“He’s very aggressive when it comes to looking for home runs, but he’s learned to take what the defense gives him,” Stenavich told McKenna. “It’s what a mature quarterback does. He’s obviously developed into that.”
That maturity shows up in the quiet plays, too. Love has leaned into checkdowns and completions that keep the offense on schedule, the kind of unglamorous decisions that flip field position and set up his defense and special teams rather than force a highlight.
His teammates don’t hesitate on the underrated question. Asked directly, receiver Christian Watson didn’t blink.
“One hundred percent,” Watson told McKenna. “I think that when you bring up any of those meaningful quarterback stats, I feel like he’s up there in all of them.”
Jordan Love’s Rankings Still Don’t Match His Advanced Stats
The respect hasn’t caught up to the tape.
Love landed outside the top 10 in at least one executive poll this offseason, McKenna said, and he checked in 10th in The Athletic’s annual QB Tiers, a Tier 2 quarterback some coaches still weren’t fully sold on, per The Athletic’s Mike Sando .
He’s never made a Pro Bowl, earning only one alternate nod.
The Packers, for their part, decided how they felt about Love a while ago. They signed him to a four-year, $220 million extension in 2024 that tied him for the highest average annual salary in the league at the time at $55 million, with a then-record $75 million signing bonus.
His 2025 numbers reflect a quarterback worth that type of money. Love threw for 3,381 yards with 23 touchdowns and just six interceptions, posting a 101.2 passer rating while cutting his mistakes to almost nothing.
Love may not lead the league in the stats that fill a highlight package, but in the ones that decide games, he lives near the top. The reputation is the only thing still catching up.
