The Sooners started three freshmen for the majority of the season: redshirt freshman guard Eddy Pierre-Louis and true freshmen guard/tackle Ryan Fodje and tackle Michael Fasusi.While that worked against them last season at times as their youth showed both mentally and physically, it should be a strength of the team this season. All three of those players have bright futures and are returning instead of entering the transfer portal. They also return veteran center Jake Maikkula. On top of that, the Sooners added Arkansas Razorbacks tackle E'Marion Harris, who had more than 20 starts at Arkansas.
ESPN's Cole Cubelic appeared on "The Oklahoma Breakdown with Ikard and Lehman" to talk Oklahoma football. He said the biggest issue he saw last season with the Sooners' offensive linemen was them second-guessing themselves.
"The No. 1 thing that can crush finish is doubt," Cubelic said. "When you don't know what you're doing, you will not finish because you're constantly second-guessing what you're doing… make a mistake 1,000 miles an hour. Because they know in that mistake, it's going to slow you down."
Cubelic's evaluation is encouraging for Oklahoma because the issue wasn't a lack of ability; it was a lack of experience. With four returning starters, another year in Bill Bedenbaugh's system and the addition of Harris, the Sooners should play with far more confidence and consistency up front.
If that growth materializes, Oklahoma's offensive line could go from a weakness to one of the team's biggest strengths and play a major role in elevating the offense in 2026.
