The Los Angeles Dodgers signed superstar closer Edwin Díaz in the offseason, but his season has not gone to plan.
He missed over three months after having surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow. He was not pitching well before hitting the injured list and has struggled ever since returning as well. He had a 10.50 ERA in the seven games he pitched before he was shut down, and has a 9.00 ERA since returning.
The Dodgers bullpen once again blew a lead on Monday night, but a one-run seventh inning got them back in front. Tanner Scott and Edwin Díaz were tasked with landing the plane. Scott did what he has done all year and looked great, and Dave Roberts went to Díaz in the ninth inning.
Díaz has allowed a run in every outing this month and has blown one-run leads in each of his last two outings. However, he was perfect on Monday night.

He threw 12 pitches, landing eight for strikes. He struck out Michael Massey on five pitches, got Isaac Collins to fly out in three pitches and got Kyle Isbel to ground out in four pitches. Díaz finally looked like the star closer the Dodgers thought they were getting when they signed him.
It was also a full-circle moment for Díaz. On Aug. 10 last year, Collins took Díaz deep in Milwaukee to walk off the New York Mets. A year later, he put Collins away and made sure his team got the win.
