Drake Maye has already hinted towards his own contract situation ahead of next year with the New England Patriots.
Christian Gonzalez is currently negotiating his own new deal with the Patriots having been selected in the draft back in 2023.
There is an expectation that Gonzalez will become the highest-paid defensive back in the NFL, but there is a game of who will blink first with Devon Witherspoon at the Seattle Seahawks.
Maye signed a four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $36.64m after being selected with the third overall pick by the Patriots.
The 23-year-old has already led the Patriots to a Super Bowl, with a bright future ahead in New England.
There is room for optimism over his expected new deal as Maye praised Gonzalez’s professionalism despite his ongoing contract talks.

Gonzalez’s contract talks are being dragged out as Witherspoon’s talks in the Pacific Northwest continue to take place.
Despite this, the cornerback has shown up to the Patriots’ training camp and competed in every rep.
This is something that Maye has praised ahead of his own contract negotiations next year.
“I’m not thinking about that [next year] right now,” Maye told a local reporter.
“I’m a big fan of Gonzo and how things are playing out, so I respect him for being out here, competing, and wanting to practice. I think that speaks a lot for him wanting to be here.
“Like I’ve said before, he’s one of the best corners in the league, so I’m looking forward to playing with him.”
Maye’s situation could be completely different to Gonzalez’s next year, with the quarterback market already set.
Gonzalez is looking to become the highest-paid defensive back in the game, which may not be Maye’s prerogative.
Time will tell, but there will be a lot of Patriots fans who will be hopeful of Maye’s contract situation being resolved fairly quickly next year when he is able to open negotiations.
